'You're the moon of my life. That's all I know and all I need to know. And if this is a dream, I'll kill the man who tries to wake me..." - Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin
Almost exactly one year ago, Festoons and Flourishes had the pleasure of coordinating probably the most unique and personal Wedding we have ever come across...in the BEST of ways. I knew that from the moment I met the Bride and her mother some 6 months prior in a Hartland coffee shop, this was going to be something I had never seen before...and something incredibly special.
Shay and Justin, our Bride and Groom, would probably describe themselves in a number of ways, but 'fantasy nerds', 'animal lovers', 'dancers to the beat of their own drum' and 'TV/movie/game junkies' are the few that come to mind...definitely people after my own heart. :)
Therefore, it was only fitting that after months of careful planning by the couple and their families, the day of the Wedding began with a U-Haul delivery of the Wedding goods and props that within a few hours, would transform the Howell Opera House into Shay and Justin's fantasy-Wedding dream. Over a span of 6 hours, box after of box of carefully documented goods and decorations started to take form...revealing thoroughly thought-out centerpieces of the couples favorite things (Breaking Bad, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones just to name a few), a board game table, a dessert table ladened with cake and cookies, a unique Ceremony archway built by the Bride and her family and the perfect cherry on top...a full 16 foot candy bar.
Just as the finishing touches were being placed in the sunny ballroom, Shay and Justin, surrounded by their closest family and friends, utilized the 135 year-old Opera House stage as the perfect setting for their photographs. Meanwhile, guests had began flooding in from near and far, looking forward to seeing the Bride and Groom and excited for the festivities to come.
The Ceremony itself was short and sweet, perfectly accented with hand-written vows from both Shay and Justin, lovingly hidden amongst the books that adorned their Ceremony archway. But in my opinion, it was the Reception that 'stole the show'. No matter which way you looked, you saw bits and pieces of the Bride and Groom's personalities...who they are as individuals...and who they are together as a couple. Whether it be the one of the hundreds of books and figurines used as decor that were brought from their own home, the adorable Polaroid engagement pictures used as favors and place cards or the solitary pizza that was delivered for the Bride herself half way through the Reception...this Wedding was exactly the way it was meant to be...a celebration of two individuals and the beginning of their life together.
Where are they now?
Shay and Justin Spencer live with their fur babies in the Plymouth area of south-east Michigan and continue to do what they do best...excel at being Shay and Justin. Both mortgage bankers at Quicken Loans, this lovely couple takes joy in all of their surroundings, whether it be family and friends, a good book or some nice healthy gaming competition. But no matter what they are doing, one thing for sure is...they are definitely having fun.
Shay and Justin...your Wedding is and always will be one of my favorites. The amount of detail and thought that went into the production of your Event was by no means small...which is a testament to the amount of work and love that you and your families put into your Wedding day...a major group effort for sure. It has honestly been a pleasure getting to know you both over the last year and a half...but above all, it was my honor to be there for you on such a special day in your lives. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

"Hiring Festoons and Flourishes as our Wedding Coordinator is one of the greatest decisions we have ever made. I've always been obnoxiously over planned and organized but Ashley even put me to shame. No matter how prepared and organized I thought I was, she always came up with things I hadn't even considered, which is so great! You don't want to get to your big day and then realize there are details that you hadn't even thought about! Ashley is so sweet and helpful, she feels like a second Maid of Honor. I did a ton of DIY and wanted every detail personalized to my Groom and I. I had maybe 50 different decor photo examples and she never made me feel like I was bothering her with with them, being too complicated, or anything. She's great with communication and she'll answer any question kindly, no matter how silly it seems.
On the Wedding Day, she put everything together exactly as I'd imagined it...everything was absolutely perfect! She worked with all of our vendors to make an exact timeline for the day so that everything ran completely smoothly. And she handled absolutely everything on the big day so that we could just sit back, relax and enjoy ourselves. I would recommend Festoons and Flourishes to anyone and everyone! They are amazing!"
Check out their amazing Vendors!
